The landscapes I create are meant to convey an unfamiliar passage of time merging both historical and imagined structures, as well as variations in technology. Through the stillness of the landscapes these locations standing on their own are meant to suggest the existence of life; whether it be an indigenous culture, a developing world, an occupied land, or one that has merely collapsed. Ruins and footprints left be incorporated into the next civilization to come or simply forgotten.
The process I use for my drawings a surrealism technique of blotting mediums such as paint or ink onto a surface to create texture. Through the use of line I build upon the drawing to create an entirely new space or subject matter using the ink blot as a starting point. The imagery is influenced by my research of landscapes, architecture, literature, Chinese painting, comics, and themes of science fiction and fantasy.
